From their courageous journeys to freedom on the Underground Railroad to helping defeat the Axis Powers [Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and Japan] during World War II, African Americans have forged a proud history in West Michigan.  That tradition of accomplishment, innovation, and leadership has continued into 21st century and is celebrated during Black History Month 2019.
